Simulacra

Mixed Media: Oil on canvas, Arduino, sensors, Touch Designer, C++, Real-time interactive · 2026

A culture can only exist when there are participants who believe in it. To sustain life, we need to have a certain belief. Everything we see is subjected to our own belief - which might be deemed false by other communities. This reflection has coincided with simulacra theory popularized by Jean Baudrillard, as culture or beliefs takes shape because of our perception, which in turns reinforces or builds on the culture. In this case, one might then ask if reality is ever in the picture or this is all merely a good copy of a copy. The amount of light shone through the paintings are subjected to the number of people present in the room, which directs how much of these paintings we can visibly see and investigate.
